Sony Hacked Again 25 Million More Accounts Hacked

Logo of the PlayStation NetworkHackers may have stolen the personal information of 24.6 million Sony Online Entertainment users.

More than 20,000 credit card and bank account numbers were also put at risk.

This in addition to the recent leak of over 70 million accounts from Sony’s PlayStation Network and Qriocity services.

Sony said that the compromised personal information includes customers’ names,
addresses, e-mail addresses, birth dates, gender, phone numbers, logins and hashed passwords.

Also at risk are the credit card numbers and expiration dates of 12,700 non-U.S. customers, plus 10,700 direct debit records from customers in Austria, Germany, Netherlands and Spain, containing bank-account numbers, customers’ names and addresses.

This information was stored in what Sony said was an “outdated database from 2007.”

Just because it's an "outdated database" doesn't make it any better. For shame Sony.

It's fail after fail with this whole Sony thing, I can't say I'm that bothered because we all have fraud insurance on our credit cards, it's certainly gonna leave Sony red in the face though!

Perhaps the problem isn't an outside source...

That's what you get for picking a fight with hackers!

Who care's if people homebrew their PS3s? Doesn't sound criminal to me!

that just sucks...poor sony. hope they recover soon.

Man this just keeps getting worse and worse. I hope Sony learns a lesson.

Sony's taking on a beating bad.

Sony re-works its whole online firmware just to get it hacked the second it comes out... so sad

Trelin said...

They didn't get hacked twice. This hack happened at the same time as the first one with little doubt by the same people. Still bad. All those old everquest players who haven't had a credit card number change have a problem.

Rults said...

it looks like someone was really angry at sony and managed to screw everything up for them. As I understand they had to shut down their current running MMOs for the duration of this investigation aswell

This may be the end for Sony. Hopefully Microsoft learns something from this and never allows this to happen to them.

Sony needs to get their shit together. They have little breathing room as it is.

Xenototh said...

Their compensation is almost a joke, seeing as how they are offering it to new users and those who could have had their accounts compromised. Need to give something other than a free trial...

Adam Rockefeller said...

Wow, this is getting ridiculous. Sony needs to just admit everything and take the stock loss. People's security is at risk here.
